Happy Pepero Day!

Today is 11.11.11.

And also .... it's Pepero Day!  

Ryan and I were showered with boxes of the stick-like biscuits all day at school, and now have the stomachaches to prove it.

This is what we took home with us, even after sharing the treats we received with most of our classes.

Simplicity.

Sometimes it's hard to remember this, especially when you're on the other side of the world, without the comfort and familiarity of home.  It's east to forget this when you live in a teeny tiny apartment and you don't have access to certain things you think you need.

But then you remember that you have life, a home and a job.  You realize that your husband is always by your side, and that your favorite people are just a skype call away.  You learn that you actually do have everything you really need.

And then you understand that living happily while living simply isn't so difficult, after all.

Fireworks Festival

Busan's annual fireworks show took place on Saturday.  

Last year's show (which somehow never made it onto the blog besides in the sidebar pictures) was incredible.  The fireworks lasted for nearly an hour and were the most amazing we've seen anywhere in the world.    

For this year's festivities we packed into the subway and headed to the beach with the rest of Busan.  Men in military uniforms were literally directing the crowd onto the train.  Luckily it was a pretty short ride.

  A former co-worker of ours was kind enough to let us tag along to the rooftop of an apartment belonging to a friend of hers.  A heavy rain rolled in right as the show began, but we didn't let that ruin the evening.  We are Oregonians, after all.

 

 

It was an amazing show.

Movember Awareness

Ryan has decided to join a group of Canadian friends here in Busan in an effort to raise awareness (and money) for prostate cancer and its research in a project called Movember.  The men involved will shave their faces on November first and will groom their facial hair into a mustache for the rest of the month.  Cancer among men is a growing issue and Ryan is hoping to help do his part in raising awareness of men's health.
