The Weekend of Frisbee and Shopping

Last weekend, Ryan's Ultimate Frisbee league scheduled multiple games on Busan's most popular beach.  Teams from all over the country were set to participate.  I couldn't wait to cheer on Ryan's team.  Unfortunately Saturday turned out to be gray, rainy and wet, much like fall (and winter and spring) weather in Oregon.  It made me strangely homesick.

Despite the rain, I made an appearance at the beach to show my support and snap a few photos.  

It's a good thing our camera is waterproof.

Ryan quickly acknowledged that it was ridiculous for me to stay and watch his games in the torrential downpour.  

"Hang out in a coffee shop or go shopping or something," he suggested.  

So I did.  (Go shopping of course.)  
You don't have to tell me twice. 

I was so tempted to buy these!

But I resisted...... for now. 

Meanwhile, the rain finally let up and Ryan captured this pretty shot over the water.

We woke up the next day to much better weather.  Sunny skies and pleasant temps in the seventies.  Ryan was on his own as I'd made prior plans to skype with friends and family at home and later (ironically) shop with a local friend. 

We enjoyed our Sundays, separately.

Now if only I could stop thinking about those rain boots......

Teaching Update

I woke myself up this morning as I commanded, "put away your cell phone," in my sleep.  I sat straight up and followed my sleep talk with, "Ohmigod!  Did I really just say that?"  Yes, Ryan confirmed, I really just said that.  So loudly in fact, that it had woken him up as well.  You know you're a teacher when...

Speaking of teaching, things at school are going extremely well, especially considering the semi-rocky start I had last month.  Ryan and I have both settled into our new positions and have finally gotten a handle on the layout of the school (both buildings), the students' names in all of our rotating (twelve or so!) classes, and the material we're supposed to teach in each class.  Our first round of report cards is behind us, as are the speaking tests we're required to create and implement every few months.  By now we're more comfortable with the staff, routines, and way of life that will fill the year ahead of us.  I promise to post photos of the school and students soon.  Until then, here is a picture I snapped this morning.

It's my turn to stand at the door this week and welcome students to school.  It's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it.

My sister recently sent me these photos of my newest niece and nephew at 4 1/2 months.  It's hard to believe how much they've grown since my visit!

Weekend in Daegu: Part Two

An Italian dinner at "Into" was a real treat after our Saturday of sightseeing in Daegu.  With only five tables, this downtown restaurant has a small, open kitchen where each dish is made to order.

The next morning we explored more of the city.

 

Later, a proper Sunday brunch was as delicious as dinner has been. 

Once our tummies were full, we headed to Ryan's back-to-back Ultimate Frisbee games, the reason for our venture to Daugu.

What a wonderful weekend. 

Weekend in Daegu: Part One

On Saturday morning, I hopped a train with my honey to Daegu.

Once there, we joined a local city bus tour and stopped at a farm village to take in the local agriculture.

Stop #2 was Palongsan National Park and Dongwha Temple within.  Fall is in full swing and the Korean countryside brings out the beauty in what has become our favorite season in Korea.  Who knew it could stay sunny and dry nearly every day even when summer is over?  Not Oregonians. ;)
