{Weekend in Tongyeong: Part Four}

On our last afternoon in Tongyeong we visited the city's local fish market.

Of course Ryan had his eyes on the fish.  We selected a friendly Snapper from a grumpy woman who then filleted it before our eyes.

The restaurant across the way served the huay alongside sesame leaves, lettuce, and sauces.

Not a bad end to a wonderful weekend away.

{Weekend in Tongyeong: Part Three}

Sunday in Tongyeong we woke up early and walked to the city's most popular tourist attraction, the Mireuk Mountain cable car.

We grabbed tickets to one of the forty seven gondolas and waited for our number to be called.  Waited for over an hour...
got bored and took some self-portraits...

... and finally got on the cable car.
(Note the Portland based Columbia Sportswear ads on the gondolas!)
It was worth the wait.

The views of the area's many small islands were amazing from the mountain's summit.  Every direction was dotted with forested landforms.

We had a great time taking in the natural beauty and vowed to return to explore one or more of the mystic islands.

Our next trip to Tongyeong could be as soon as Wednesday (thank you national holiday!)  We plan to visit Somaemul Island, forty minutes from the city by ferry.
We can hardly wait!

{Weekend in Tongyeong Part Two: Wall Painting Village}

One of our favorite parts of our trip to Tongyeong was winding our way through the city's famous Wall Painting Village.  Detailed artwork covered the surface of every building in a ten block radius where new designs are being added every day.

"I heart Somak"
Somak=a mix of soju (rice wine) and makeju (beer).
Don't knock it 'til you try it!

{Stay tuned for our experience at the local fish market!}
