It's Kimchi Making Time

Kimchi is a staple of Korean food and is served with every meal.  (Yes, this includes breakfast.)  Ryan and I are now completely accustomed to eating kimchi regularly and even enjoy it.

Wintertime means kimchi-making time in South Korea.  In the past Koreans made enough kimchi in the winter to provide for the rest of the year.  It's becoming more and more common to buy pre-made kimchi rather than making it at home, but some families still honor the old tradition.

On a recent trip to the grocery store Ryan and I noticed all the essentials for kimchi-making on display.

cabbage
radish
chili powder
tubs for mixing
slicers
strainers and spatulas
storage tubs for the final product

There are even special refrigerators sold here to store kimchi.

So what are you waiting for?  Go make some kimchi!

Recipe here :)

  1. BE CAREFUL with the slicer! That is what almost took my whole thumb off! xo
