Hangul Day

Hangul is the language of South Korea.  Today is an unoffical holiday to remember the creation of the country’s native alphabet as proclaimed on this day in 1446.

Again, Google is in on the celebration.

Hangul is much easier to read and write than Chinese or Japanese because it has fewer characters and is completely phonetic.  Ryan learned to read Hangul last year, which definitely comes in handy when interpreting menus and bus destinations.  Though I'm a little behind, I've been slowly working on memorizing the characters and their sounds.

Happy Hangul Day!
